Pithos Rosso IGT 2010

Vttoria, Italy
www.cosvittoria.it

60% frappato
40% nero davola

Tasted March2013 This wine presents one of the most rare arrays in the spectrum in the world of red wines. To call it delicate goes without saying. To say it is interesting and delicious, even in a soft spoken way, it easy to do. To claim it is a wine for everyone....hmmm...perhaps not. Welcome to COS, where the Pithos red shares unadulterated fruit expression in a nearly weightless texture. The bouquet is the headline story, full of rose petals, brilliant red-red cherries, a sense of wild herbs and the raw undertone of minerals. It is enough to keep you at the rim of the glass for several moments before ever tasting the wine. Once committed to tasting, a unique experience occurs on the palate. The ripe cherries and cranberry fruits hover above the palate, the acids spritely dance and play and the concentration is all taste and little feel. There is no muscle yet beautiful movement, no fat but a long aromatic finish. Since the alcohol is low for a red, at 12%, the tender feel is less impressive than some roses. A truly feminine prettiness exists here. We loved this wine, knowing that it would make some people wonder where the wine "is" in the glass. It is not ideal for the heavy weight bouts. It is poetic, purity over potency, pristine over powerful. Pithos is a wine one can drink for hours without a knock down punch which we felt gave time for the converts to realize its beauty and open a discussion for the wide range of unique grapes still masterfully grown around the globe. There is an array for every occasion, and this proves it. We searched for a direct message from the winery but it appears the owners prefer the experience to be personal more than pre described. We think you will agree, this is better left for the audience to decide.
